Axiom Advice & Counsel LLC (“AA&C”) believes in transparency when it comes to the data related to you. This Cookies Notice (and the relevant websites referenced) provides details about how AA&C uses cookies.

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that are stored on your browser, the hard drive of your computer or mobile device, if you agree. Our sites (and occasionally emails) use cookies to distinguish you from other users. This helps us to provide you with a personalized experience when you browse our sites. It also helps us to improve our sites, so that you can have a better user experience when you later return.

2. Are cookies safe?

3. Are there different types of cookies?

Cookies fall into two main categories:

• Session cookies: These cookies last for the duration of your visit to a site. They delete themselves when you close your browser.
• Persistent cookies: These cookies stay on your device when you close your browser.

Cookies are further broken down into four main types of cookies depending on their purpose:

• Strictly necessary cookies: These cookies are required for the operation of our sites. They include, for example, cookies that enable you to log into a secure area of our sites. Our sites cannot function properly without these cookies. We only use strictly necessary cookies for their essential purposes unless you have given us consent to any other uses that they may have.
• Functionality cookies: These cookies are used to recognise you when you return to our sites. This enables us to personalize our content for you and remember your preferences (such as your preferred language).
• Analytical or performance cookies: We use these cookies to recognize and count the number of visitors and to see how visitors move around our sites when they are using it. This helps us to improve the way our sites work, for example, by ensuring that our users are finding what they are looking for easily.
• Targeting cookies: We use these cookies to record your visit to our sites and the pages you have visited. We use this information to make our sites and the advertising displayed on it more relevant to your interests. We may also share this information with third parties for this purpose (i.e., third parties that assist with our advertising).

Some of the cookies on our sites collect data for more than one use. 

4. What about third-party cookies?

We use third parties when providing you with our sites which may set cookies on your browser or hardware. These third parties may include, for example, advertising networks and providers of external services like web traffic analysis services. These third-party cookies are likely to be analytical cookies or performance cookies or targeting cookies. If you do not feel comfortable, you can individually block these cookies in the cookie settings on our sites or you can block them in general by changing the settings on your browser (so that it blocks all of these types of cookies). 

5. Are there any specific cookies that AA&C uses that I should know about?

We use Google Analytics on our sites for our advertising purposes, to improve our sites and get feedback on how we are presenting our services to our users. Data is gathered by Google Analytics from users’ internet protocol address’ albeit in an anonymized form whereby AA&C can see information about the ages, genders and interests of our users. The data is then transmitted by Google Analytics onto a server in the U.S. where it is stored.

If you wish to prevent Google Analytics from processing the data generated by cookies in this situation, you can do so by downloading and installing the following technical browser plug-in (a so-called "add-on") by clicking here. This browser plug-in only works on your desktop or notebook but not on mobile devices. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data on your mobile devices by setting an "opt out" cookie that blocks the collection of your data on future visits to our website. To do this, you need to enter the following link to the HTML source-code with JavaScript in front of the Google Analytics code: <href="javascript:gaOptout()">Deactivate Google Analytics</a>. 

6. Would a cookie on my browser be considered to be my personal data?

As cookies allow us to identify you as an individual, we have your personal data in our systems. We believe in the importance of data privacy and treat your personal data with the utmost of care. 7. What if I share my device with other people?

If more than one person uses your device, the choices set by others will apply to you as well unless you specifically change them when you are using your device. For example, if you share a computer with your colleagues, family or friends, you may see adverts based on websites they have visited as well as websites you have visited.


8. What happens if I change or turn off one or more types of cookies in my browser?

You can visit the “options” or “preferences” menu or your browser to change your settings. You may find it useful to review the following useful websites which give you advice based on the browser you’re using:

We are not responsible for the information on any of the websites above. 

You can also choose to entirely turn off or delete cookies in your browser. If you do this, it may affect websites that use similar cookies to us. This is because the cookies choices you set in your browser replace any cookies choices you set on a single website. For instance, if you run an advertising blocker on your browser, you won't see AA&C ads that are tailored to you, even if you have turned on marketing cookies for our sites. 

9. What are the consequences of refusing cookies?

If you use your browser setting to block all cookies (including strictly necessary and therefore essential cookies) in general or those specifically on our sites, you may not be able to access all or parts of our sites and subsequently enjoy all the functionality available.
